- Happy Easter
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us in the Church for our Easter celebration. Reception, as is tradition, began our service with an Easter bonnet parade, it definitely brought some Springtime cheer and colour. Through song, verse and narrative we told the Easter story and everyone (weather included) played their part to make it a lovely end to our term and start to the Easter break. Thank you to Mrs Brown, Mrs Duquemin, Mr Campbell and staff team for preparing the children, who were so at ease in the Church. We always receive a warm welcome by the Church and we are very appreciative of the refreshments. Paul, our vicar asked us to reflect upon how broken things can be more special when fixed. We thought about how kind we could be to each other over Easter time, thinking about anyone in our own families or beyond, who may feel they need nurture and care.
We hope you are able to have a good break and we look forward to our Summer term events in terms 5 and 6.
It has been a busy week right until the end. Our winning KS1 and KS2 marble run teams attended the inter-school finals at the Wills memorial building on Thursday, it was a great event, we will share a report in the next newsletter but are pleased to say our KS1 team won most ‘most creative marble run,’ design.
Year 6 had a WW2 workshop and special day to conclude their learning, and Reception had a visit from a dentist.

Reception - People, patterns and pizzas!
It’s been an egg-citing week in Reception full of chocolate, chicks and church!
Reception have continued with their learning about ‘people who help us’ and they were really lucky to have a visit from Mrs Krause who told them all about how best to keep their teeth and gums healthy and everybody was given a goody-bag to take home with items to do just that! Thank you Sheryl for reading us ‘Alan’s Big Scary teeth’ and sharing your knowledge and skills about dentistry.
On Thursday, RRP had a visit from Dr Walton who told us that being a doctor was like being a detective -trying to investigate what was wrong, showing us the equipment she used and also challenging us to find out what was wrong with doll! Thank you Dr Kate for coming in and sharing your expertise.
Whilst this was happening RLB were making their own pizzas as a prize banquet with Mr Campbell for being the winning class for ‘eating them to defeat them’, eating their vegetables! Well done RLB – yummy!
The Easter Story was introduced as part of our RE curriculum. We learnt all about the true meaning of Easter and why Christians celebrate at this time of year. We also discussed what is represented by the familiar, fun and delicious Easter traditions like hot cross buns and chocolate eggs. We even got to share some hot cross buns with our buddies as a treat.
In maths we have been continuing and making our own repeating and more complex patterns using loose parts, threading beads and of course Easter items! We were able to create AB, ABB and ABC patterns as well as noticing if the pattern was incorrect!
Reception you are such a creative bunch! Your Easter bonnets for the church service on Thursday were egg-ceptional and added some eggs-tra zing to proceedings! The Easter church service as always was marvellous and you flapped and wiggled wonderfully as ‘Spring Chickens’ along with Y6 buddies -everyone was really impressed and very proud of you! Well Done!
What a cracking week and fantastic term it’s been! Thank you all for making it so special and for all your continued support.
We hope you all have an egg-cellent Easter holiday and we look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks, rested and ready for the start of a new term.
This week in Literacy Year 1 have been exploring poetry and considering what makes a good poetry performance. Then we learned and wrote the poem ‘What Is Green?’ in preparation for our performance at the church. In RE, Year 1 explored why Christians celebrate Easter and looked at the Easter story. We discussed the significance of some of the symbols of Easter and learned how many of them represent new life. Then we crafted some wonderful chick themed Easter cards with finger prints and fine liner pens.
Year 1 have loved our weekly yoga sessions with Carolyn this term – thank you Carolyn! For our final yoga lesson, we enjoyed exploring spring animal poses and a some new breathing techniques, including bunny breath.
Well done Year 1 for your wonderful performance today and all of your amazing work this term!
Year 2 - Designing and creating
In DT this term, Year 2 has successfully designed, created, and evaluated felt ‘pouches’. Thank you to the additional adults who supported this process – threading needles, helping unpick problems, assisting with stitching where needed, and sewing on buttons.
We have made it! The Easter holidays have arrived. Term 4 has been full to the brim with learning, workshops, excitement and creativity. Thank you year 3 for another thoroughly enjoyable term. This final week has been crammed full of learning as ever and we are very proud to share our English, DT and Maths. We created persuasive adverts for a high tech new boot for a character in Wild Robot. The children absolutely loved writing cheesy persuasive adverts and being inspired by clips on YouTube. In maths we got practical (and cold) measuring capacity with water outside!
Finally, a big thank you to Miss Williamson who covers our PPA on a Tuesday. She has been working hard with our children to produce beautiful applique cushions which was extremely challenging but have worked out wonderfully!
Have a restful and joyful Easter break and we look forward to starting all over again in Term 5!
Year 4 have had a great end to Term 4. On Monday everyone performed the Matilda playscripts that they had written and directed in groups. There were lots of fantastic impersonations of Mr and Mrs Wormwood and Matilda. In Geography, we have been investigating different climates and studying a range of maps, looking at rainfall and biomes.
Year 5 and 6 have spent this term in Computing focussing on how data can be transferred through various methods: QR codes, infrared, Bluetooth, RFID, wifi and mobile data. They used their learning to think about "The internet of things" and how they could design a smart school. Here they are creating and explaining their amazing ideas.
This week has been a real step back in time for Year 5. On Monday, Historic England guru Michael Gorley led WW2 workshops that got the children exploring historic maps of Bristol – looking at the impact the war had on the city. On Tuesday morning we were greeted at the door with a host of children from the 1930s and 40s! Matt from Primary History Workshops led a fully immersive day that will last long in the children’s memories. Enjoy the photos and ask your child what they got up to!
Year 6 Easter fundraising - hunt and raffle
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported Year 6 in their funding efforts this Easter. Thank you too to the parents who have donated prizes for the raffle. We are very grateful.
Year 6 really enjoyed running their stalls and organising the hunt and the raffle.
This afternoon they presented the raffle prizes to the lucky winners. Well done you all!
