What a mammoth and most memorable Sports day we had yesterday. A huge thank you to Mr Campbell and the whole staff team who facilitated this event for our community. We put our trust in the weather forecast and the risk worked in our favour. The children were fantastic and enjoyed their ice lollies and Sports day medals at the end of the day for participating. We were very proud of and thankful for the appreciative feedback we received from the supporters able to attend. Clifton College were very flexible and helped us throughout with our changing plans-what a beautiful setting for us to use.
We really hope the weather is as kind for Campfest this weekend. We know how much hard work goes into the planning and preparations of this. We hope you have a most enjoyable weekend and huge thanks to our PTA for providing this opportunity.
The children had chance to ‘shuffle-up’ this week to meet their new teacher and to see their new classroom. There will be further transition activities during the coming week. School reports came home with the children on Monday. Year 6 children took home their SATs results on Wednesday. The children have individually achieved exceptionally well, ready to progress to their secondary schools. Our results are well above national outcomes (the data is currently unvalidated) and we will post the information on our website in due course.

Wow where has week 7 gone! We have had great fun this week and demonstrated resilience, kindness and aspiration to do our best. We started the week with a fantastic book called ‘Hooray for Fish’ by Lucy Cousins where we talked about patterns, numbers to 20 and our favourite fish in the book. We then used the book to draw our own fish and write sentences to describe them using the tricky word ‘my’ to start our sentences.
We have been working on our gross motor skills this week and enjoyed using the spider climbing frame in the playground and of course enjoying the races at our first sports day. We really enjoyed sports day and loved getting a medal and an ice lolly at the end of the day!
Another first for us was meeting our new Year 1 teachers and visiting our new classroom. We enjoyed our visit and have spent time in our classes talking about what we are looking forward to and talking about our worries. Our teachers and the Y1 teachers are very proud and have other activities planned for next week to help us with out transition to Year 1.
We enjoyed exploring the Cuisenaire rods in maths to create patterns and we used them to create pictures. See if you can recognise any of the pictures we created in the photos.
We’ve had a week full of new and exciting experiences this week! On Tuesday we visited the Year 2 classrooms where we got to play games and explore our new classroom. Year 1 are very excited and can’t wait to get to get to know their new teachers.
In maths we have been learning place value to 100. We partitioned and compared numbers to 100 by recognising how many tens and ones each number is made up of using manipulatives such as Base 10 and Numicon. We also learned to identify one more and one less than a number using 100 squares.
We were blessed with beautiful sunshine on Thursday for our highly anticipated sports day. By carefully balancing eggs, bounding, hopping and sprinting to the finish line, the children gave it their all and should be very proud of themselves for the resilience they showed when competing against their peers. Well done Year 1!
Year 2 have loved following their designs to create their wonderful vehicles this week. They carefully thought about how to ensure the axels and wheels rotated so their vehicles would move smoothly. All the designs are so individual. We can’t wait to use them in our animated mini-adventures next week.
To prepare for our mini-adventures, we also used photos of ourselves to think about what the world would look like if we shrunk to the size of a mini-beast. We are planning to write our adventure stories before then turning them into an animation.
The Year 2 Team were also really proud of how all the children supported each other and fully entered into the spirit of Sports Day. We have definitely got some budding sports people who could be heading to future Olympic Games! What a wonderful time we had where memories were made. Thank goodness the sun decided to shine for us!
The penultimate week of year 3 and the sun managed to shine on the long awaited sports day! The children absolutely loved releasing their competitive side during the many events whilst being supportive to their peers. Thank you if you came to support and watch the children, I know they loved seeing you all there. As well as enjoying sports day we rounded off our final science topic of ‘Plants’ by making our own grass heads. Each child used grass seed, compost and tights in order to make their new little friend so that we are able to see the seeds germinate. Hopefully year 3’s new buddies will have a full head of grassy hair by the time they bring them home next week!
Year 4 had an exciting trip to Beggar Bush where we engaged in hands-on activities like shelter building and fire building. Teamwork was at the heart of our experience as we collaborated to construct sturdy shelters using natural materials, learning valuable survival skills along the way. Later, we built a fire and roasted marshmallows on it to finish. It was a memorable experience that combined teamwork, practical skills, and a lot of fun.
In DT, we have been designing and making a slingshot car. We have designed these cars and made them using lightweight materials. Once constructed, we will use a rubber band to propel our car forward. We can’t wait to race against our friends.
Our Year 5 trip to All Aboard was an exciting adventure! We sailed in bellboats and katakanus, starting from Underfall Yard. As we paddled, we navigated through the waterways, enjoying the sights and sounds of the journey. Our destination was the center of Bristol, where we got to experience the vibrant heart of the city from a unique perspective on the water. The trip was not only fun but also educational, as we learned about teamwork and the local environment. It was a memorable day filled with laughter, learning, and lots of paddling! Also, as with every trip, thank you to the parent helpers - you were amazing.
Year 5 wowed us yesterday with their guitar learning! Their teacher, Rob, asked for an opportunity for the children to show what they had been doing in their lessons this year. He said "it's not a performance; more a sharing" but we were all absolutely blown away! It certainly seemed to be a polished performance, even if that's not what the original aim was! Some of the children also shared some of their guitar compositions, which were brilliant. Shout out to Alfie as well as he was the only Year 6 who chose to perform and his rendition of Penny Royalty was fantastic!
Year 6 - Celebrating, Stepping up, Sports and Harmonious Colours
Year 6 has had the best week. During a RNLI visit, we gained a great insight into the vital work the RNLI does in saving lives at sea and how to keep ourselves safe in the water. In art we continued our painting unit and learned all about Harmonious colours (also referred to as analogous colours) and how these sit beside each other on the colour wheel. We were challenged to use the drawings collected in our sketchbook last week to create a painting using harmonious colours with an accent colour inspired by the work of the cubist Georges Braque.
Year 6 had the fabulous Stepping Up team in on Thursday to help them think about all things to do with transition. They covered topics as diverse as understanding emotions involved with moving up to secondary, friendships and making new friends, timetables and how to use them and other incredibly useful top tips. It was great for the children to meet the team, who are all secondary teachers, and to see that they are very similar to their primary teachers!
To top off our amazing week we had our ‘Year 6 Celebration Day’. We went bowling, then had pizza at Flour and Ash. How lucky are we!
