- Have a fabulous summer
We said a fond farewell to Year 6 in their Leavers Service, some parents have had children at Christ Church for many years and have contributed to the life of our school in many ways. We are so proud of the children as they leave to journey on; they are truly delightful. Mrs Williamson, Mrs Derrington and Miss Williams guided the children to reflect upon their memories, their development and the fun they have had along the way. Well done Year 6 - good wishes and keep in touch. Miss Williams is also leaving and moving on to support secondary school aged children. We know she will be excellent at this and thank her for the time she has given to our school.
My wingman Mr Campbell is journeying south to a Headship in Cornwall. I am sure we will hear the music and dancing wafting up the M5. Thank you for being such an agent of change at Christ Church and we will all continue our Healthy School and Healthy Planet mission.
In true Mr Curry style, he has secured a last-minute promotion to a Deputy Headship and we are delighted for him. Tom has given so much to our school in his time here; the costumes, the guitar playing, supporting sport events, developing his golf swing and bringing the fun. We wish him well and like his mum we are all so proud of him.
We welcome Miss Ella Cliffe to teach in Year 4 In September. Miss Cliffe was in school yesterday to meet the children and Mrs Duquemin.
We also welcome back Miss Barsby from maternity leave to teach in Year 2 next year.
My sincere thanks for your generous gifts and kind words. What a wonderful party yesterday and assembly today. Your support over the years has been phenomenal and together we have grown and built a wonderful school. I am going to miss the children enormously and the routine of school. There are so many people who have been on the journey and I know I leave the school in good hands for its next chapter. Our community is blessed and enriched by the entire staff team and external partners who support us. Our Governors who give generously and voluntarily of their time to guide and develop our school. The Church whose nurture and care is so valued.
Our PTA are the best in Bristol, in my view, they work so hard to provide the events and funds for the exceptional extras that we have. Launching this Summer into the woodland dock will be our new Pirate ship, I can’t wait for it to arrive and I will definitely be sneaking back for a peep at it. Thank you!
Well the next message will be from Mr Oldfield and I know he will receive a warm welcome from you all. Please say hello if you see me out and about and have a most enjoyable break.
A masive thank you to our fabulous PTA for a great tea party yesterday for our leaving school community. Also a massive thank you and well done for campfest where an extraordinary £8k was raised which pays for the rest of the new pirate ship to set sail at Christ Church School in September!
Campfest 2024! What a blast! Thank you to all those who contributed and help raise sufficient funds for our new pirate ship!
Reception - a Sneak Peak at the last Week
WOW! We can’t believe it’s already the last week! Time has whizzed by so quickly! We've enjoyed doing some of our favourite activities and being in our classrooms. Playing together and discussing our holiday plans has been so much fun. We also spent time reminiscing about what we have loved during our year in Reception and created some lovely writing pieces to capture these memories.
On Tuesday, we had a wonderful picnic lunch with our buddies. Excitement overflowed when, to our great surprise at the end of playtime, an ice-cream van pulled up, and we were told we could all choose a treat! They were enormous and delicious, and everyone had a terrific afternoon! It was lovely to spend this time with our buddies before they leave our school.
On Thursday, we attended their leavers' assembly and were featured as we had each made a portrait of our buddy as a gift. We wish them all the best of luck as they go off on their new adventures; they will be missed!
We were also lucky to have our new teachers visit us. They shared a story and spent some time in our classrooms, which has been a great way to get to know them and feel ready for the next school year.
As we reflect on this incredible year, let’s remember the brilliant learning, fun and excitement of our time together. Well done everyone!
We would like to thank you all very much for your support throughout the year!
As Dr. Seuss wisely said in Oh, The Places You'll Go!:
“You're off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So... get on your way!”
Here's to a fantastic year gone by and to the wonderful adventures that lie ahead!
Reception Team!
What a fantastic final week in Year 1! In DT we learned to identify different fruits and vegetables. Did you know that rhubarb is a vegetable and peppers are actually a fruit? To put our learning into practice, we made a couscous salad using a variety of fruits and vegetables. We carefully chopped peppers, tomatoes, cucumber and a combination of herbs including mint, parsley and basil. We then mixed all of the chopped ingredients in with the couscous, adding a squeeze of lemon juice and a drop of olive oil for dressing. Year 1 really impressed us with their cooking skills and willingness to try new foods!
In art we were inspired by Andy Goldsworthy to create sculptures using only natural objects from the playground. The children designed intricate and colourful sculptures using leaves, twigs, flowers to create patterns and shapes.
Finally, both classes filled their marble jars which meant a special end of term reward – a party! On Thursday afternoon we created eccentric and unique party hats ready to be worn for our special and very well deserved celebration. All of the Year 1 adults would like to give a special well done to the children for all of their hard work this year and for just being all-round superstars! A big thank you also goes out to the amazing parents – you have been so helpful and we’ve really appreciated your support through the year. Well done Year 1 and best of luck for Year 2.
This term year 2 have been busy designing and making cars for our mechanism and wheels unit of work in DT. The children worked hard to ensure that their cars moved smoothly and also looked fantastic! To celebrate their hard work they took them into the woodland area to test and show them off. Well done year 2!
The end of the year is finally in and what a beautifully sunny end to the term it is. We wish you all a happy, restful and fun summer holiday and the children enjoy a well earned break. It has been a fun filled adventure teaching all of the children in year 3 and we will truly miss them all. They have matured so much and are ready for the challenge that year 4 will bring. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year, it makes our job so much easier! Good luck year 3!
Year 6 - Picnicking with Reception buddies
Year 6 had an exceptional last week. On Monday they enjoyed working with Year 2 supporting them with making their DT cars. On Tuesday, the sun shone and they spent a wonderful afternoon picnicking with their Reception buddies, finishing with a surprise (for Reception) visit from an ice cream van. On Thursday, invited adults and the school community, were filled with pride and sorrow as Year 6 led us through their journey at Christ Church with an emotional, heartfelt goodbye. Year 6 - we will all miss you so much – as you embark on your new journey remember the laughter, friendships, and lessons learned here. Remember us all - we are so incredibly proud of you!
