We have had a most enjoyable 4 weeks back together in school. The staff team have gone above and beyond to ensure the children have had lots of fun and enriched learning both indoors and out. Our thoughts are with the staff and children who had to isolate this week. You have done so well engaging with Google Classroom again and we look forward to seeing you on 19th April.
We have started our whole school, ‘What we will build’ project, it has inspired some fantastic thought-provoking writing and creative activities. We have decided to carry it on, into week one of next term, so we don’t rush to finish our pieces. We will look forward to sharing the outcomes with you on our return.
We are delighted to have made plans for some trips in terms 5 and 6, fingers crossed! Please see below a list of the letters that have been sent out by the school office.
Our PTA have launched the Around the World trail for our community to enjoy over the coming weeks-it’s a great activity in the outdoors so please do have a go at following the trail. The crafternoon packs were also a success so a big thank you to our PTA for providing some enjoyable activities for Easter time.
We are not sure what we would have done without our Outdoor classroom space during the last year which our PTA helped to fund. As you can see in our weekly newsletters it is in use daily. Any support you can give to the PTA is in turn passed onto the children.
Bristol City Council have shared the Families in Focus March Bulletin with lots of information and ideas to support the family during the Easter brak and beyond:
Happy Easter everyone, we all wish you a peaceful and safe break and we look forward to seeing you on 19th April.

Contact tracing over the Easter holidays
To support track and trace if your child develops symptoms over this weekend and they receive a positive PCR test result on or before 4th April, please notify us by texting the school Covid telephone number 07342081168 in order that we are able to notify the school staff and class members. For positive cases after Sunday 4th April parents/carers should follow isolation advice provided by NHS track and trace.
Return to school on 19th April- if your child or household has been required to isolate during the Easter holiday they should not return to school until the 10 days isolation period has ended. Please notify the school office of their absence on 19th April in the normal way.

Covid information
Household testing
Although primary school student testing is not currently being offered, there is a national programme of household and bubble testing for those with primary and EY children. This does not guarantee identification of child cases, but it may assist in picking up where infection is within the household which will then support reduced asymptomatic attendance in school settings. The link to the information and where to access the kits from can be found here

Financial support to self-isolate
We are aware that the requirement to self-isolate is financially challenging but there is support available. Details that you can share with families can be found through this link
Red List Travel Ban Countries
If you are a British or Irish National, or you have residence rights in the UK, and you have visited or been through a ‘Red List’ country in the last 10 days you will be able to enter the UK, however you must quarantine in a government approved hotel for 10 days. This requirement may impact the return of some pupils back to their school/setting as families may delay their return back to the UK.
To find out more information about which countries are on the ‘Red List’ please follow the link

Chandos Atelier Crafternoon Packs
We hope you all have fun with your crafternoon packs. Let us know how you get on and share some of your creations with us [email protected]
Reception has had a fun-filled final week of term! We have enjoyed participating in a collaborative online singing event organised by Bristol Plays Music and we were also honoured to have a visit from author 'Gabby Kuzak' who shared her story about amazing mothers in the animal kingdom.
Last Friday Reception were lucky enough to have Jane and Tim join us for a nest building workshop where the children also learned about various birds and their nesting habitats.
The children have independently created their own chick Easter cards and the chick - theme continues with our Easter song - watch out for our egg-stravaganza of cracking singing!!
Year 1 Monet Art, What We'll Build and Author visit
This week Year 1 have been learning about Claude Monet and his impressionist landscape paintings. We used dotting techniques with paints and pastels to recreate his famous painting Water Lilies. We have also been busy working on our whole school project based on the Oliver Jeffers story What We'll Build. We were tasked with being inventors and we drew inventions and wrote descriptions of them.
Year 1 children really enjoyed listening to the story written and read by Gabie Kuzak. They asked a lot of questions and all wanted to contribute to the conversation. They all feel very grateful for what their mums do for them.
Year 2 Mini festival, Author visit and Easter
Year 2 have had another fun and busy week in school. On Tuesday we were lucky enough to join the Year 1 and Reception classes as well as other classes from schools across Bristol to perform the songs we have been learning in a mini-festival with Bristol Plays Music. The children all sang beautifully and performed their signs with confidence.
On Tuesday afternoon Mrs Kuzak visited us in the outdoor classroom to read us her new children’s book which has recently been published. It was very inspiring to listen to the author of a book read it and explain where the ideas for the story came from.
This week we have also been continuing to master fractions! Ask us about them, we’re getting really good!
We have also used our creative skills to create lovely Easter cards for our families – shhhh, don’t tell them, they’re going to be a surprise!
Year 3’s Learning the Ukulele and Writing ‘Recipes for Life’
Year 3 have had a wonderful week, enjoying the sunshine and lots of fantastic learning. In our Ukulele lessons, the children have been learning how to play ‘C major’ and ‘A minor’ chords with the correct fingers. This is quite fiddly, but they have really got to grips with placing their fingers down accurately and strumming along to some jolly songs.
We have loved our work based on ‘What We Will Build’ this week. The children have created some super recipes in which they have written their ingredients (e.g. a sprinkle of hope, a dash of love) and their method (e.g. Give your friend a big hug and gather the love. Put a dash into your mixture). They included some fantastic imperative verbs, numbered steps and top tips.
Wishing everyone a happy and (hopefully!) sunny Easter!
Year 4 What We'll build and When I Grow Up
This week Year 4 have loved the work we’ve done on What We’ll Build by Oliver Jeffers. We were also inspired by the song, ‘When I Grow Up’ from Matilda the musical. We rewrote the lyrics thinking carefully about our own futures and what we’d like to build when we grow up!
Year 5 Builder of Change and Matisse artwork
In Year 5 the children have been researching what it means to be a ‘Builder of Change’ after reading the book What We’ll Build by Oliver Jeffers. The focus of researching an inspiring person from recent history and seeing how they quietly and calmly advocated positive developments inspired a buzz of enthusiasm and a willingness to share what they had found out. After gathering factual information, they developed their fact-checking skills and used these facts to create detailed biographies. The language and sentence structure used is a testament to their aspirational approach to their learning.
Here is a range of the art that the children have been working on. The idea of the hand holding on to the yellow ribbon represents unity connecting all people, the colour yellow chosen to represent optimism and happiness, the words written on the ribbon attributes to make our future better and brighter. Characteristics, such as being compassionate, resilient, fair and thoughtful are represented through the meaning of the colour palette that they used. The precision and care that the children displayed showed their understanding of the value of positive interactions.
In this picture, you can see some of the fantastic team-work and cooperation being displayed in gymnastics this term.
Year 5 had lots of fun creating their Matisse art work. This term, they learned to describe shapes using adjectives and their position in a French sentence. For example, they can say and write: il y a un petit carré vert et une grande ligne bleue (there are a small green square and a big blue line).
Year 6 Lighthouse and What We'll Build
This week year 6 in school have been working hard to write a descriptive recount about a 2 minute segment of an animation called ‘Lighthouse.’
By limiting the amount of the story being written about, the children were able to really concentrate on their descriptive skills-pulling together all of their learning regarding sentence structure, grammar, figurative language and author voice.
They produced some wonderful accompanying water-colour illustrations too.
Also this week they have been exploring themes of friendship and animosity and discovering historical figures that have built bridges to peace. This has been based on our whole school book-‘What We’ll Build’ by Oliver Jeffers.
