- A Friday Morning Mystery
Year 3 boarded the coach this morning for their day trip to Bristol Forest school. All were appropriately dressed to embrace the outdoors, which following yesterday’s deluge was mostly likely to be very muddy. Thank you to parents/carers for waiting patiently at pick up time on Thursday whilst the children navigated the puddle in the playground.
On Thursday we welcomed our school improvement partner into school for her first on site visit since 2019. Our school Governors joined the discussions at various times during the day. It was a very constructive day looking at our school assessment data, provision during school closure and re-opening, well-being and curriculum. Once we receive the feedback report we will write further.
Happy Eid-al-Fitr to our families who have been celebrating this week. For Muslims, Eid is the breaking of the fast, it marks the end of Ramadan with prayers and a meal.

This week we learned about fiction and non-fiction texts then created our own fact files about our favourite dinosaurs. The children also got creative making their own dinosaur headdresses using their cutting and measuring skills. In maths the children have been 'adding more' by telling 'First, Then and Now' stories using dinosaurs, ten frames and counters. Hettie in RVA got her writing award for her amazing dinosaur fact file, Nicholas got his for trying really hard with his writing in phonics activities and Felix got his certificate for his amazing use of sounds to write his weekend news. Well done to all our Reception writers!
In R.E this term year 1 have been learning about the places of worship which are sacred in different religions. This week we have been looking at the Muslim place of worship. Inside the Mosque we learnt that Muslims use prayer mats. We each designed our own prayer mat using lots of bright colours and interesting patterns.
In Year 2 we have been learning about the life of Florence Nightingale and the work she did to transform hospitals for the better. We compared hospitals from before Florence Nightingale to hospitals now. We are very grateful that we are living after her changes have happened and that hospitals are now clean places which help people get better.
We have also used the chrome books and iPads to support our learning of measure as well as position and direction.
Year 3 Tackle Time and go on a Forest Adventure!
Year 3 have not stopped this week! Computing, French, a huge piece of writing, starting a new topic in maths AND our first school trip! We have been blown away by the children’s writing this week, they have become news reporters! Writing their own articles about our ongoing story ‘Wild Robot’. We have also mastered fractions and so have started to tackle time. The clocks have come out and the children are finding it very exciting realising when break and lunch are!
Year 3 are continuing to improve on their ukuleles and have been enjoying it immensely.
Thankfully we managed to choose the only dry day to go on our very first school trip of the year and were incredibly excited to get out into the woods.
In French, we are continuing to learn about fruits and we are focusing on gender, articles, plurals and adjectives. We learnt the different ways of saying the in French (le-masculine, la-feminine, les-plural, l’ -vowel). They enjoyed writing their own first sentences in French, for example: J’aime les pommes (I like apples). They also had lots of fun playing noughts and crosses!
In Science this week, we have been learning about the digestive system. We have learnt about the journey that food takes through the body and the functions of different parts of the digestive system. We love Science!!
Year 5 Performance Poetry and Giacometti Sculptures
In Literacy this week Year 5 clearly enjoyed working in small groups to perform a variety of poems by poets such as Benjamin Zephaniah, Jeanne Willis, Brian Moses amongst others. Their performances showed an increasing confidence and understanding of presence, voice, articulation and intonation, as well as bringing the poem to life by using gestures and movement. Year 5 also studied the poem ‘Magic Box’ by Kit Wright and used this as a model to write their own anaphoric poem – with stunning results. The children have worked hard to publish these and illustrate; their finished Magic Box poems are proudly displayed in each classroom.
A further highlight was donning safety googles to work in pairs to make their own wire sculptures inspired by Giacometti, a Swiss sculptor, who Year 5 have been studying. The models seen in the photographs will undergo another week of transformation – next week they will have a further covering and be painted black – making them truly in the style of Alberto Giacometti’s work. Another successful and productive week Year 5!
Ruthy came into school and delivered an assembly based on Ascension to the Year 5 classes. The children discussed the impact that it had on Jesus’ followers and watched some video clips of the ascension story and Pentecost. Ruthy connected the idea to birthdays and said it is a celebration of the ‘birthday of the church’. Both classes got to share in the delights of the celebration by having a slice of birthday cake made by Ruthy.
Year 6 have been busy finishing their book ‘Floodland’ which has linked with their geography topic of ‘Cimate Change.’ They have learnt about the causes and consequences of climate change and how they, as global citizens, can make change and influence outcomes. (Year 6 parents we are sorry if you have been bombarded with requests to become vegetarian or demands to change to a green energy supplier!)
Our book focused on the rising sea levels engulfing the East coast and the adventures of Zoe as she tried to escape Norwich before it returned to the sea….
Thank you to our resident Norwich experts Miss Cator and Mr Eades who provided insider knowledge!!
Year 6 incorporated art, poetry, drama and research into their learning and have emerged resolute in their determination to look after their future planet.
At approximately, 9am this morning, Joe, our fabulous chef, whilst preparing for a busy Friday service, realised that he was missing three peas from one of his specially selected pea pods. However, he did not panic; he looked for clues.
- the freezer door was slightly ajar
- there was a small group of peas crying out uncontrollably, singing the words – ‘peas release let me go’, to the tune of Engelbert Humperdinck’s famous 1967 number one hit ‘Release Me’
- there were miniscule slithers of ice next to the kitchen door
Joe had a feeling that the band of esca-peas, would have made their way to the village, to see their friends in the fruit and veg shops. And low and behold, Joe’s suspicions were correct. He approached the arches and could see a green figure. It was indeed the three amigos – the peas in the pod.
Taggart would have been proud of Joe’s efforts today, and so were the onlookers in the village, sipping their morning beverages – they gave Joe a massive round of applause. He led them back to school, past the cheering onlookers from the playground and back into the freezer.
Joe had certainly defeated the peas…for now.

Veg Power is returning on Monday 7Th June
On 7th June, the Eat Them To Defeat Them Campaign will be back for 6 weeks. Each week will have a different vegetable to focus on. Our wonderful team in the kitchen will support by creating tasty dishes based on each week’s vegetable. The children will receive a ‘mission pack’, containing fun activities to complete. We will also send out links to more resources next term.
Healthy Choices
It is wonderful to see all the healthy options children bring in for their morning snack or in their lunchbox. However, we have recently noticed some children bringing in unhealthy options. We would ask that chocolate and crisps not be brought into school, instead pack healthier options. Stay tuned in Term 6 for lots more ideas of what to include.
Have a wonderful weekend
Mr Campbell
