PSHE NSPCC ‘PANTS’ resource
We will be sharing this resource with children in Reception to Year 4. It provides an important message about keeping your private parts private. The website linked below provides useful guides for parents/carers. Please see the separate letter in Szapp Feed or email.

Etiquette at school drop off and pick up:
Please be thoughtful of our school community at Drop Off and Pick Up.
We have had a number of complaints from our neighbours about parents/ carers parking on restricted zones such as double yellow lines, zig zag lines and across driveways. There have also been a number of instances of cars parked across the school gates making it very difficult/ dangerous to maneouvre young children and buggies into the school site.
If you need to drive to drop / pick up your child from school, please park in the 1/2 hour free spaces in the roads around the school and make the short walk into school.
The school car park is restricted to staff and visitors who have reserved a space. Please don't use the car park for drop off / pick up, including for Shine wrap around care.
Please note that we don't allow dogs in the school playground - some children are frightened of dogs - school is their safe place and it is not fair for them to start the day afraid to come in through the gate. We understand that many of our families have dogs - if you need to bring your dog to drop off/ pick up, please ensure you tie them up on the railings outside of the school playground - this includes not tying them up just inside the school gates.
Thank you.

Reception have had a busy yet exciting week again with their learning+ around school. They had a brilliant time up in the IT suite using the programme 2paint. This activity not only had them practising their mouse skills but also their hand eye coordination and their attention to detail for shape and colour. They will continue to further develop their mouse control and IT skills in the coming weeks. Watch this space! Both classes were also lucky to have a session in the school library learning how to find different books and which sections to look for them. This saw the children really using their sounds to blend and read titles and categories. We were all really impressed!
In maths this week the children have been exploring 3D shapes - naming and identifying their properties. They investigated which 3D shapes could roll or be stacked to build strong structures. They then went on to find out about repeating patterns with shapes, objects and movements. Spring is in the air at last and the children will be introduced next week to what the signs of spring are in and around school.
Year 1 Painting like Monet & The Weather Forecast
This week in Art, Year 1 have been looking at the work of Claude Monet. We learned that Monet liked painting outdoors and often painted the same scene at different times of day and in different seasons. We looked at a range of his paintings and discussed what we liked about them and what we noticed about the colours and brushstrokes he used. Then we had a go at recreating his lily pond in Giverny by, first, sketching out the shapes and then using a cotton bud to paint the colour with dots and dashes. In Geography, we have continued recording the weather in our weather diaries and worked in pairs to present a weather forecast for the UK. We were very impressed with everyone’s performances!
On Wednesday, Year 2 looked at algorithms and a very cool programme called 'Quick, Draw'. The children worked well with learning partners to share the IPads and used prepositions to describe how to make a Lego model. When they had finished, both teachers had to use their algorithms to construct the models- this was great fun and gave all of the children the opportunity to evaluate their own instructions.
This week, Year 2 have loved singing and learning actions to their Easter song ' Lord, I Lift Your Name on High' and both teachers have been very impressed by their maturity and polite sitting in assembly training. They can't wait to perform to the rest of the school!
The children have consolidated their knowledge of shape and started to think about fractions. They began by looking at equal fractions. Their teachers have challenged them to find fractions at home and notice when they are using it in their everyday conversations. For example, "I have eaten one quarter of my sandwich". "I have folded this piece of paper in half."
In literacy the children have been writing emails to Billy using interesting sentence starters and beautiful cursive handwriting. We have been building our stamina by writing beautiful stories for our morning work and thinking about synonyms to improve our vocabulary.
In year 3 this week we have managed to cover a variety of subjects! We began with our maths topic of ‘measure’. What better way to test our measuring skills than by measuring each other. We manage to compare, order and convert our measurements between mm, cm and m.
In English we have been studying the book ‘Wild Robot’ by Peter Brown. We are all totally immersed by the book already. This week we have been writing diaries from the perspective of Roz the Robot. To help us get into character we did ‘hot seating’ as Roz to generate emotive language.
Finally we have been looking at ballads, rhythm and singing in our music lessons. We have combined our music lessons with preparing for the Easter service at the church and can’t wait to perform what we have been practicing!
Year 4 Wet Jungles and Dry Deserts
In Geography this week we have started our enquiry 'Why are jungles so wet and deserts so dry?' We started by looking at a world map and learning about the equator and the tropic of Cancer and Capricorn.
We then looked at a range of different maps and used their keys to find out information about rainfall, temperature, biomes and climate. It has been interesting comparing different climates and looking at how and why certain animals and plants live there.
In Literacy, all the children wrote beautiful poems about the rainforest using personification. The vocabulary they chose was powerful and emotive and each child was able to capture the threats that rainforests are facing at the moment.
Year 5 continue to enjoy our Literacy text ‘The Adventures of Odysseus’. After completing our own story maps of the chapter ‘Odysseus and the Cyclops’, we wrote our own fantastic play scripts using our knowledge of the features we learned earlier in the term. We also created our own pastel pictures of Odysseus and his men caught in Poseidon’s storm.
In DT, we began by discussing which foods make up a balanced diet. We looked at the nutritional values of two bolognese sauces, tasted them, then discussed how we could make healthy substitutions and additions to an existing recipe which we hope to make later in the term. As well as this we made a dish as part of a meal. Last week we made some bread that could be used as a starter, In this session, we made a dessert – apple crumble. We worked in groups to make our class crumble. We learned how to rub in the sifted flour, sugar, and butter. Our technique was to ‘tickle’ the ingredients with the tips of our fingers. The finished crumble was delicious – our apples were fluffy and the brown sugar within the recipe made it toffee-like.
In French this week we continued our learning about French pets by role-playing a conversation in a pet shop. One person was the pet shop owner, the other was a customer. We really showed off our knowledge of greetings, different pets, colours, and numbers- fantastique!
This week in Year 6, we have been busy putting all sorts of skills to the test! On Monday we returned to our music learning about the Kodaly method and learnt about the difference between pulse and rhythm. We played a game called Concentration and then notated the rhythm and pulse for the rhyme. In our maths lessons, we've been doing pie charts: calculating how many degrees we need for each category given to us in a table of data and then using our protractors to draw our charts accurately. Meanwhile, in Computing, we learnt all about barcodes and QR codes. We then used the QR code generator to create our own storyboards. Our finished products were pictures with QR codes that we scanned to get the story!
Netball against Clifton High:
The red team faced challenging competition from the Clifton High's A team. The opposition were skilful and athletic which led to a fast-paced game. The Christ Church team, however, played amazingly as a team - which accurate, speedy passes and precise shots on goal to win 19-8.
Match report by Freddie Crabb, Sports Captain
During the first quarter of the match, the B team scored the first two goals while the opposing team scored the third score. We had already scored six goals before the first and third quarter. At the end of the match, it was a tie - both teams scoring seven points each. Both teams were equally matched.

We are very excited to be taking part in the NW24 writing competition. NW24 is a network and partnership of schools in North and West Bristol, collaborating to ensure the delivery of the highest possible quality of education for all pupils.
The writing is based around a cute little creature called a Quokka. Details of the writing competition have been uploaded to Google classroom for anyone that would like to join in. We cannot wait to see your writing and to choose the winning entries that represent Christ Church in the NW24 competition.
