Year 3 - Ancient Egypt at the Bristol Museum

The highlight of our week had to be our trip to Bristol Museum on Thursday. The children walked in the pouring rain to the museum (alongside some very helpful parent helpers!) and were ecstatic to be surrounded by so many artefacts from Ancient Egypt. Each class spent time in a fascinating workshop, which involved looking at some artefacts and exploring which part of Egypt they could have come from and what they were used for. The children had many fantastic ideas. Particular favourites were; the head stand which they used to rest their weary heads on to go to sleep (which looked and felt rather uncomfortable!), a real necklace made from glass beads and a horse toy which Ancient Egyptian children would have played with.
Our trip was topped off by an exploration of the museum’s Ancient Egyptian gallery. The children saw a real-life mummy, wrapped in linen and spotted lots of hieroglyphs which had been chipped into stone over 4,000 years ago! What a memorable day!
